The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC isolated charger delivers precise, controlled battery charging from your vehicle or boat's smart or regular alternator. Built-in Bluetooth makes this device fully programmable from the VictronConnect app. Set custom charging parameters for your battery chemistry, including LiFePO4 batteries.

The Orion's engine running detection mechanism ensures that the house battery charges only when the engine is running and prevents the starter battery from discharging. Control the remote ON/OFF contact manually or through a battery management system.

The Orion-Tr Smart charger can be used in 12V, 24V or 48V systems and is suitable for both lead acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W and an unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power. Suitable for high temperatures up to 131°F with a full rated output up to 104°F.

    Does what it is supposed to, but could be better.

    I have this in a Sprinter van (RV conversion) to charge the 48vdc LiFePO4 house battery directly. There are other options, but Victron makes solid components.

    Pros:

    Small package

    Straight-forward to install

    Has bluetooth and mobile app to adjust settings and monitor.

    Settings allowed me to lower the threshold input voltage to a usable level.

    Extensive documentation can be found online.

    Cons:

    The app is not particularly informative for this particular unit, only shows input and output voltages. No amps or watts, alternator load, or battery SoC.

    Bluetooth cannot be turned off for this unit, so it will require another relay to cut the power entirely when not in use.

    Could be higher output. 360W is not a lot.

    Thanks to Intelligent Controls for standard price, but low shipping cost, and no sales tax.

    Easy Set Up and Control

    Installed this for my pull behind camper. Installed under the side rail in bed of Pick-up with Lexan shield (open above and below Orion for cooling). This is my 12th Victron product and as with all others, installation, set-up and programming was logical and as described in the manual. Great support from Intelligent Controls.
